We, the Heads of State and Government of Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela, member countries of ALBA, consider that the Draft Declaration of the 5th Summit of the Americas is insufficient and unacceptable for the following reasons:
- The Declaration does not provide answers to the Global Economic Crisis, even though this crisis constitutes the greatest challenge faced by humanity in the last decades and is the most serious threat of the current times to the welfare of our peoples.
El Salvador Elections 2009
On March 15th 2009 the Salvadoran people went to the polls and elected Mauricio Funes, the FMLN candidate, and in doing so they broke through 130 years of right wing dominance in the country. The FMLN, the same organization that fought a guerrilla war for many years in the 1980's proved that they could win in the political field as well. After many years of the civil war, broken promises from the peace accords, and lies and pressures from the US and ARENA supporters the Salvadorans decided to ignore fear and voted for a change in their country.
